Posting Summary
In an effort to include more distributed energy resources (DER’s) in our portfolio of resources, SMUD is evaluating smart inverter residential PV installations for monitoring and grid support. A critical piece to using any DER as an operational resource is evaluating its communications pathway. SMUD has adopted the Common Smart Inverter Profile (CSIP) consistent with California’s Rule 21 mandate for all Investor-Owned Utilities to use this profile for communications with DER’s. SMUD’s next step in evaluating smart inverters is demonstrating the Common Smart Inverter Profile (CSIP) communications pathway and the solutions available to making that pathway successful and scalable.
