Serving a population of 1.4 million people, SMUD is the nation’s sixth largest, municipally owned, electric utility. SMUD began delivering power to the Sacramento region in 1946 and since then has provided electricity for most of Sacramento County, as well as small portions of Placer and Yolo counties.

SMUD has the responsibility to its customers to provide uninterrupted electrical power at reasonable rates. To achieve this, SMUD must have highly trained and skilled workforce to build and maintain its electrical distribution system in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner. This reduces or prevents equipment failure and service disruptions.   

This Request for Proposal (RFP) is to train SMUD personnel in the most current operating procedures and OSHA regulations related to proper Equipment Set-Up, Cribbing, Signalperson & Rigging, and Crane Operator training with certification. The training is for Mobile Cranes and/or Overhead Cranes, such as, gantry, bridge, and jib cranes, but not limited to, as needed by the location of the training. The successful proposer will be working with SMUD Training Support and Safety personnel to develop state-of-the-art procedures and training methods at SMUD’s Sacramento Power Academy East Sacramento locations, or SMUD’s Hydro Facility in Pollock Pines.
